Client: Branch

Developing a lightweight, ergonomic, minimalist, desk riser to enable a seamless sit-stand transition.

Brief:

In a landscape where most desk risers are a clunky eye-sore, Branch identified an opportunity to create one that was both functional and aesthetically pleasing.

The process started by identifying functional, safety and ergonomic requirements, then working through form + mechanical iterations to ensure the design felt premium and maintained a minimalist appearance.

Seamless Transitioning

In partnership with engineering, we developed a spring-assisted scissor mechanism that allows users with with low dexterity/strength to transition easily from sit to stand.

Finding the right force requirement entailed creating many iterations and testing them with a range of users to ensure the riser didn’t spring so fast that it knocked contents off the desk, but not too slow that the user had to lift the desk manually before the spring engaged.
